2016 PAEMST Selection Committee Applications

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Selection Committee Applications

2016 PAEMST National Selection Committee
The 2016 National Selection Committee (NSC) for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) will take place during the months of July and August. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is currently seeking a wide range of reviewers, including K-12 teachers and administrators; science, mathematics, and STEM education researchers; university professors; and others with the expertise to distinguish exceptional teaching to serve on the PAEMST program’s NSC. This year’s NSC panelists will review applications from K-6th grade teachers. Committee review is scheduled for late July and early August 2016 and is conducted virtually, with no travel accommodations needed.

As a panelist, you would participate on a mathematics or science panel on one of the following dates:
  • Monday and Tuesday, July 25-26, 2016;
  • Thursday and Friday, July 28-29, 2016;
  • Monday and Tuesday, August 1-2, 2016;
  • Thursday and Friday, August 4-5, 2016;
  • Monday and Tuesday, August 8-9, 2016; or
  • Thursday and Friday, August 11-12, 2016.

The goal of NSC is to recommend to the NSF two teachers (ideally one from the science award category and one from the mathematics award category) from each state or territory for the awards program. Each panelist will be responsible for reviewing between 9 and 11 applications. Each application consists of a written response to five Dimensions of Outstanding Teaching (max. 25,000 characters), a 45-minute video, and administrative and supplementary documents. Panelists will have 5 to 6 weeks to review assigned applications and provide comments and scores online. Individual reviews must be completed in advance of the panel. Panelists will then participate in two days of panels lasting up to 8 hours each day, where, as a committee, they will discuss and provide comments and scores on each application.

On panel days, panelists will need a computer, internet access, and a telephone. Panelists selected to serve will receive training via webinar and a Reviewer Handbook prior to serving. Panelists receive a flat-fee ($200) per day for each day of panel. As in prior years, there is no compensation for the independent review completed by panelists prior to the panel dates.

If you are interested in serving as a NSC panelist for any of the above panels, please complete the online form, 2016 NSC Panelist Information Form, by Friday, April 22, 2016. On the form, please be sure to indicate which subject/dates match your area(s) of expertise and availability. After completing the online form, please email a current resume to NSC@paemst.org.

For additional information on the 2016 PAEMST NSC Review, please email NSC@paemst.org.
